Using Emu Oil for Eyelashes

Using Emu Oil for Eyelashes to Improve Appearance

Emu oil, as you can probably guess, is oil derived from the emu, a large bird similar to an ostrich that inhabits Australia. Aborigine tribes have used emu oil for thousands of years as a natural remedy for treating pain, burns, lacerations, bruises and other ailments. Today, emu oil can be found in just about every health and drug store. It can also be found in beauty supply stores as the product has also been recognized for its anti-aging effects.

Emu oil adds thickness to the skin, which helps minimize the appearance of wrinkles. Men also use emu oil on their hair; the oil contains linoleic acid, which helps thicken the hair and combat hair loss by reducing inflammation in the scalp and hair follicles. If emu oil is good for the hair on your head, then it stands to reason that it is also good for hair in other areas of the body. Some women use emu oil for producing fuller and thicker eyelashes.

Originally, emu oil was used to help regrow eyebrows for those with glaucoma. When some people tested the oil on their eyelashes and noticed rapid growth, the news quickly spread. So how exactly does emu oil enhance the appearance of eyelashes? Eyelashes naturally begin to thin out and become brittle with age. Aside from assisting growth, emu oil also produces longer, fuller and darker lashes when applied twice daily for about four weeks.

The best way to apply the oil is through the use of a simple applicator brush. The oil is rich both in linoleic and alpha-linoleic acid, which serves as a natural hair conditioner that strengthens and fortifies the hair. The great thing about emu oil is that it is a natural and cheaper alternative to mascara, which is also typically laced with all sorts of chemicals; this may cause eye irritation and discoloration.

Chemicals in mascara have prompted many women to seek out organic alternatives. Emu oil is particularly effective because the oil can penetrate into dormant follicles. While it is best to use 100 percent pure emu oil, you can also opt for those that come with additional ingredients, such as Vitamin E, biotin and castor oil; these have all been shown to stimulate hair growth.

For some women, their eyelashes are just as important as the hair on their head. Full and thick lashes give women a voluptuous look that complements the rest of their facial details. However, products like medicated mascara and extensions can be costly. When it comes to mascara, most are full of chemicals that are not meant to be applied to your skin much less your hair or lashes. Emu oil serves as a natural substitute provided that you buy a brand that contains pure undiluted oil.

Emu oil is readily available at your local health store and beauty supply shop. Read the label and don’t settle for anything less than pure oil. While those with additional additives may be cheaper, they are also drastically less potent.
